What types of Led lenses are there?

LED lens, which is closely connected to LED, can enhance the use efficiency and luminous efficiency of light and can use different lenses to change the optical system of LED light field distribution according to different effects. LED lens types can be divided into the following four categories according to different materials:

1. PMMA lens: Optical grade PMMA, chemical name: polymethyl methacrylate, commonly known as acrylic, plexiglass.

2. PC lens: Optical grade PC, chemical name: polycarbonate.

3. Silicone lens: Optical Silicone Material

4. Glass lens: optical glass material

Today we will first talk about two types of lenses with high-cost performance: PMMA lens and PC lens.

LED lens type--PMMA lens:

Optical grade PMMA, chemical name: polymethyl methacrylate, commonly known as acrylic, plexiglass.

 

Features: 1. High production efficiency (completed by injection molding)

  1. Strength and toughness: PMMA has relatively high strength and toughness, and its tensile and impact resistance are 7-10 times higher than ordinary glass. When it is used as plexiglass, even if it is broken, it will not produce broken fragments like ordinary glass.
  2. Colorless and transparent: light transmittance as high as 90%-92%
  3. Good performance: good dielectric and insulating properties, strong arc resistance, excellent aging resistance; heat distortion temperature 80 ℃.
  4. Wide range of applications: With good optical properties, PMMA materials are widely used. Among them, ordinary PMMA is mainly used in advertising light boxes, signs, bathtubs, etc. Optical grade PMMA has a higher light transmittance (up to 93%) than ordinary PMMA materials, and better scratch resistance is one of the important materials for current lighting equipment. So optical grade PMMA material can be used to make LED lens, mainly used in indoor lighting accessories, such as commercial lighting, office lighting, etc.
  5. Recyclable(Ordinary glass is not recyclable).

Optical grade PC, chemical name: polycarbonate. 

                                                                                      

PC, scientific name polycarbonate. The light transmittance of this material is slightly lower than that of PMMA, and the light transmittance is about 89% when the thickness is 3MM. However, it is more resistant to high temperatures than PMMA, with a heat distortion temperature of 135 degrees, and is resistant to yellowing and does not change color after years of outdoor use, so PC lenses are often used as outdoor lighting lenses.

Features: 1. High production efficiency like pmma lens, can be injection molded or extruded according to different needs.

  1. High-temperature resistance above 130°C
  2. Has good impact resistance. The impact resistance is not only eight times that of PMMA material, but also 200 times that of ordinary glass
  3. UV agents can be added to the surface to enhance performance, absorb ultraviolet rays, and use it outdoors for many years without discoloration.

The led lens type of PC material is widely used in outdoor lightings, such as street lights, high bay lights, stadium lights, traffic lights, and so on.
